The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust is a leading voluntary organisation for the conservation of wildlife and wild places in Lincolnshire. We work actively on conservation issues and manage almost 100 reserves.

You can play a part in this vital work. Volunteers of all ages contribute to the Trust's work bringing a range of skills, interests, time and enthusiasm. There is a range of voluntary opportunities: indoors and outdoors, skilled and unskilled, regular and casual. You could find yourself surveying wildflowers, putting up fencing, assisting in a visitor centre, helping children enjoy a minibeast hunt or stuffing envelopes.

The Wildlife Gift Shop, Lincoln
  • Sales Assistants
Volunteers are needed to help sell a range of wildlife-inspired gifts from our shop in the Castle Square in Lincoln.
Ideal for anyone who enjoys the shop environment; you would be involved with meeting customers, helping with purchases, arranging displays and restocking.
Volunteers are particularly needed for holiday and sickness cover.
Please contact the Volunteers Officer for more details.
 Life on the Verge surveys
The Life on the Verge Project aims to identify the most important roadside verges for wildflowers on chalk and limestone soil in the county.  The project continues to recruit volunteer surveyors in North and South Kesteven and now, in its third year, is rolling-out to the Wolds from Spilsby to the Humber. With the help of volunteers, botanical surveys will be carried out on road verges across one-third of the county.  Over the last 2 years alone, over 1000km of road was surveyed and just under 100km of new roadside was designated with wildlife value.

You don’t need to have identified plants before as training will be provided along with a "Life on the Verge Wild Flower ID Guide" which is aimed at non-experts.
It includes a handy checklist of those wild flowers that are characteristic of chalk limestone grassland and so indicate important verges.

Visit the Life on the Verge website to find out more and click on "Get Involved".

Wayside Warden, Roadside Nature Reserve (RNR)

  • Blue Harbour Roadside Nature Reserve (RNR)
A Wayside Warden is needed for Blue Harbour Roadside Nature Reserve (Grid Ref SK952350-953353) in the parish of Old Somerby near Grantham.
The duties of a Wayside Warden involve keeping a watch on the verge, periodically clearing litter, reporting any problems (such as fly-tipping or damage) to the Trust and completion of a simple question and answer annual report.  Botanical expertise is an advantage, but not essential, and there is an opportunity to participate in one or more of three training evenings held each summer to sharpen identification skills.
Please contact Sue Curtis, Reserves Administrator, on 01507 528373 for more information.
